A Closer Look at the Dexcom G5 Mobile

The Dexcom G5 Mobile requires a prescription and is indicated for pediatric and adult patients ages 2 years and older. The System contains 3 components:

  1. The sensor - a small sensor wire inserted just underneath the skin picks up electrochemical signals from glucose oxidase reactions in the interstitial fluid and sends them to the transmitter.
  2. The transmitter - Bluetooth technology housed in the transmitter sends glucose data wirelessly to the display device.
  3. Display device - Glucose data and trends are displayed either on the Dexcom G5 Mobile receiver or a compatible smart device.

Optimize Patient Therapy

When your patient is just starting on insulin therapy or you are initiating a regimen change, determining the optimal regimen can be a challenge due to many unknown variables, including a patient's unique physiology, lifestyle choices and behaviors. Dexcom CGM use can help with day-to-day management for your patient in the following ways:

  • Real-time glucose readings and trend information can be used to make diabetes treatment decisions.*
  • Built-in hypo alarms and alerts warn of impending lows and highs, allowing patients to make diabetes treatment decisions* to course correct.
  • Patients can enter events into the Dexcom G5 Mobile receiver or their compatible smart device,‡ enabling them to see the impact of exercise, meals and other daily events.

*Fingersticks required for calibration, or if symptoms or expectations do not match readings, or when taking medications containing acetaminophen.
