Is G7 covered by Medicare?

Yes, Dexcom G7 is covered for Medicare eligible patients** (Medicare coverage criteria).

** Under Medicare’s DME fee schedule, reimbursement for CGMs, using CPT codes K0554 and K0553, is the same, regardless of CGM brand. Regulation at 42 CFR 410.152(b), stipulates that coinsurance for items of durable medical equipment is 20% of the allowed amount.

Is Dexcom G7 covered by insurance?

Since Dexcom G7 FDA clearance, we’ve been working with insurance companies to add Dexcom G7 coverage to their plans. Our goal is for Dexcom G7 to reach equal coverage to Dexcom G6 as soon as possible. We also have a Simple Start program allowing new and existing commercially insured patients to receive special pricing on Dexcom G7 until their health plan covers it.

How do patients share their Dexcom G7 glucose data with followers?

Dexcom Share is a feature within the Dexcom G7 app that allows for remote monitoring. One person (the Sharer) may share their CGM data with up to 10 designated individuals (the Followers). To set up the Share feature in the Dexcom G7 app, go to Connections > Share and follow the onscreen instructions.

Does the Dexcom Follow app work with the Dexcom G7 app?

Yes, the Dexcom Follow app works the same way as it did with the Dexcom G6 app on compatible smart devices.

  • New Followers don’t need to have the Dexcom G7 app on their smartphone. They only need to download the Dexcom Follow app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Existing Followers don’t need to download the Dexcom Follow app again if it’s already installed on their smartphone. When a Dexcom G6 user who uses the Share feature of their Dexcom G6 app upgrades to Dexcom G7 and the Dexcom G7 app, existing Followers come with them. Followers should be able to continue monitoring their Sharer with no extra steps.

Do Dexcom Clarity clinic account users need to update anything to be able to view Dexcom G7 data?

No update is needed. Clarity clinic account users will automatically see their patient’s Dexcom G7 data when sharing is enabled.

Will Dexcom Clarity work with Dexcom G7?

Yes, Dexcom G7 works with Dexcom Clarity.  Healthcare professionals and patients who used Dexcom Clarity with Dexcom G6 do not need to register again. The G7 app also conveniently integrates a Clarity data summary (called the Clarity card) into the home screen for quick and easy insights.

What events can be tracked in the Dexcom receiver?

In the receiver, patients can track insulin doses, food, and BG meter values. Patients can also edit and delete events. They can also calibrate using the receiver events menu. They can’t edit, delete, or enter past calibrations.

How can patients make their receiver pair with the sensor?

If your patient is having trouble pairing their receiver to their sensor, they can try pairing again but keep the sensor within 3 feet of the sensor. Remove any obstacles between them, like walls, water, and their body.

Do patients still need to buy the receiver?

The new Dexcom G7 receiver is indicated as optional so patients do not need to purchase the receiver if they are going to use their compatible smartphone as their display device. If patients would like a receiver as an alternate display option, they will need to purchase the newly redesigned G7 receiver.

Medicare and some Medicaid plans require patients to purchase the receiver since they require patients to use the receiver along with a compatible phone at this time.

Do patients need to use a receiver?

Patients have the option to use only the Dexcom G7 app on a compatible smart device, only the receiver, or both at the same time. The only exception is that Medicare coverage requires use of receiver.
